Musée Riad Belghazi

 

It was originally a large 17th- century riad. It was turned into a museum by the Belghazi family and it is the first private museum accredited by the government.
 

The Belghazi Riad Museum holds a great number of objects that carry cultural and historical significance, allowing visitors to go back to the 14th century and to concretely understand Fez’s past.

The Belghazi Riad Museum displays the Moroccan know-how. You can discover ethnographic exhibitions tied to Moroccan art, and, in particular, Islamic art. Some examples of these objects include jewelry and money in gold, traditional dress in silk with golden embroidery, musical instruments, ceramics, manuscripts, and many other objects.

The Belghazi family is a great family of Fès which lived the Belghazi palate. since the beginning du18ème century. The back large father Mohammed Ben Ghazi Eloutmani was a professor of mathematics; his son Haj Mekki Ben Mohammed Belghazi taught astronomy, his grandson Haj El Madani Belmekki Belghazi specialized in the textile.

El Aârbi Belmadani Belghazi specialized in the saddles of horses and the embroidery of the covers of the Mausoleum Moulay Idriss. like his son hadj Mohamed Belaârbi Belghazi. He was a chief of trade (rolls) in the towns of Fès and Mèknès. Each one collected important documents.

The last wire Mr. Mohammed Abdelilah Belghazi, born in 1956, became expert of the Moroccan ethnographic inheritance. Ex chairman of the Company of Arts of Oudayas, in Saudi Arabia,in Kuwait and Germany in the capacity as architect decorator of the interior and he founder, preserving Museums BELGHAZI in Morocco.

The museum is open every day from 9.30am to 12am and from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.
